5 Hidden gems in Halong Bay you should know

Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Halong Bay is well-known for its 1600 islands, picturesque limestone mountains with white sandy beaches, and wonderful caves, surrounded by emerald sea waters. The beauty of Halong Bay has drawn huge attention from visitors all over the world, making it one of the most attractive destinations in Vietnam. However, not all tourists can fully enjoy Halong Bay's magnificence because this bay still contains many under-the-radar places to explore. Let’s take a look at some of the hidden gems in the heritage bay.

1. Cua Van floating fishing village

A floating village located in a calm sea, surrounded by a cluster of islands, and majestic limestone mountains, Cua Van Floating Village is the first and largest floating fishing village for fishermen in Vietnam. The typical life and culture of fishermen in Halong Bay are reflected through houses roped together and simple bamboo boats at Cua Van. 

Visiting this village, tourists will not only be astounded by the scenery and the lives of local people but also experience some interesting activities. You can join in a range of cultural activities, such as sailing, squid fishing, pulling nets, cooking and enjoying the delicious seafood right after catching them. Visitors can even stay the night at the local’s homes, enjoy their special cuisines, and listen to their songs for a fulfilled trip.

2. Tien Ong Cave

Located on Cai Tai island, Tien Ong Cave, also known as Grotle du Cieau is one of the magnificent caves on Ha Long Bay just most recently explored and made accessible to the public. 

Unlike other caves in Ha Long, the mouth of Tien Ong Cave is very wide. In the middle of the cave, the bizarre limestone blocks, stalactites down from the ceiling and grow from the ground divided it into two main parts.

Besides its stunning natural beauty, Tien Ong cave is also a cradle of ancient Vietnamese people. Visitors can explore the cave, enjoy its charm and learn about history, culture, and geological tectonics through the archaeological relics on display at the museum in the cave.

3. Ho Ba Ham Area

An overview of Ho Ba Ham Area 

In the far southwest of Halong Bay, located on Dau Be Island in Lan Ha Bay, Ho Ba Ham is a stunning place missed by almost tourists. Ho Ba Ham Ara is a system of three large lagoons that are linked by three cave tunnels. Tourists will be overwhelmed by stalactites and stalagmites in a variety of shapes and gorgeous colors hanging from the ceiling.

Ba Ham is the home of many interesting species of plants and animals. When rowing or kayaking through tunnels, you can catch sight of yellow-haired monkeys, flying squirrels or silver-headed parrots alongside tropical vegetation such as orchids, cycas topophilia palm tree, and benjamin figs. The third tunnel is a place where bats and butterflies live in. The beauty and diversity of the lake make it one of the beauty spots of Ha Long Bay visitors should consider to pass by.

4. Pearl Farm

The pearl farm was established in Tung Sau, an isolated water, surrounded by undulating limestone islands. Visitors to the farm can witness the entire process of making wonderful pearl jewelry, from the first step of raising to harvest. Additionally, tourists can select for themselves the stunning and high-quality pearl that has been carefully and skillfully crafted with great sophistication and splendor. 

Pearls here are harvested all year long, you can visit at any time and experience the whole pearl production process.

5. Trinh Nu Cave

The Trinh Nu Cave or Virgin Cave is situated on Bo Hon island has its own fanciful love legend. Visitors to Trinh Nu Cave will see a stone figure made of hope and desperation in the middle of the cave. Besides the legend, Trinh Nu Cave interested tourists in the beauty of the picturesque Trinh Nu beach with its emerald waters and tranquil scenery.
